I have naturally curly hair, but I didn't think the gene would express itself this way...

Squealing Good
Brock has discovered that he can make a new sound. Squealing. He does it quite a bit. I guess we'll have to be a little more careful about where we take him for a while so as not to disrupt anything somber or super important. Once in a while I shush him because I figure he needs to know there are times to be quiet, but for the most part I let him go for it. He seems to be having fun exploring the many facets of his voice :)

Brocky Wanna Cracker?
One of my favorite books, "Your Baby's First Year Week by Week", says its okay now to give baby a cracker at mealtime to suck on while the rest of the family is eating. We tried it out on Sunday, and it was a success. He seemed to enjoy his first taste of salt and crunchiness...although it didn't stay crunchy for long!

Party Animal
Brock went to his first kid birthday party a few days ago. Since he's not mobile yet, his first party experience involved watching the "big kids" play in the backyard while I carried him around and talked to all the moms. He and the two other infant party-goers were napping during the group photo, but Brock woke up just in time to feast his eyes (and fingers) on the cute little piggy cupcakes!
I think I would like to eat one of these someday... |
Big cupcakes for the moms and mini cupcakes for the kiddos. |
Let's see...my first birthday is only about 8 months away... |

Rice Cereal
Brock had his first taste of rice cereal a few days ago. I don't think he was a huge fan. They want you to mix it so thin when you first give it to them it's basically like creamy milk on a spoon...quite messy :) We'll keep trying and see if it gets any better!
Go Go Gadget Arm!
This moment just made me laugh. Can you guess what's going on? He dropped that teething ring and decided he really needed it back. But his telekinesis isn't fully developed yet and neither is his Gadget Arm, so after watching in amusement for a few moments and snapping a pic or two, mommy came to the rescue.

I loved the park. Now I'm concentrating very hard on sleeping and hanging on to all my toys |

For This Child I Prayed
Ashley was one of my favorite walking partners and great friends in Mississippi ( as seen in the previous post, "Wanna Walk?") . She was one of the many people who prayed and prayed that God would give us a baby, and when we found out we were pregnant, she painted this picture for the nursery--a quote from I Samuel 1--a story from scripture about how God answered Hannah's prayer for a child after years and years of waiting, and how He used that child in amazing ways for His glory. The picture hangs over Brock's crib now as a daily reminder of God's goodness to us. This weekend, Aunt Ashley got to meet our little answered prayer for the first time. We even took him on a walk together for old times' sake. God is so good :)

Birthday Buddies
When we found out my due date was July 2, everybody said, "Aw, maybe you'll have a 4th of July baby!" When he was late, our good friend Tyler said, "You know he's just waiting until July 10th because he wants to come on my birthday." Although I silently cursed Tyler for wishing me a prolonged pregnancy and/or labor, he was right. Brock came into the world at 5:54 am on Tyler's birthday. The birthday buddies met for the first time this weekend, and I'm pretty sure they like each other...maybe enough to share a birthday party once in a while.

My Fair Baby
Brock's Aunt Ashley G and Uncle Tyler came to visit this weekend, and we sure had fun! While the big boys went to the football game to watch FSU manhandle Miami, the girls took Brock to the fair! He watched a circus from up on mom's shoulders, met lots of animals at the petting zoo, and rode his first ride! He seemed to have a good time, but he was ready to sack out when it was all over (notice the dazed look he has on all the merry-go-round pics). I would have put him straight to bed, but we definitely needed a bath to wash away the smell of livestock and fair food. Mmmmmmm. Maybe next year we'll share a fried Oreo :)
That was fun, guys. Can I go to bed now? |
