Football Saturdays

I love Saturdays in the fall. Fall hasn't officially started, I know, and we definitely haven't had fall weather yet here in Mississippi...it's been in the mid-90's most of the week. But there are pumpkins on sale at Walmart, and football season is underway. That means lots of Saturday afternoons for hanging out with friends, making good food, and watching lots of football :)

Today, Jason smoked a pork shoulder that Aunt Wendi sent home with us last week. Sorry piggy. It was delicious. He put real wood chips on the grill and smoked the meat for about five hours. He made Memphis-style coleslaw, and I made home style green beans, homemade mac and cheese, and a berry cobbler. (Easy "One Cup Cobbler": Melt a stick of butter in an 8x8 pan, pour in fresh or frozen fruit (with a few tablespoons of sugar) or fruit pie filling (any kind), pour batter over top made with 1 cup milk, 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar. Bake @ 350 for 35 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.) Mmmmm.

College football is in the air. Flags are flying and we're showing our spirit. We hung our FSU flag last week (wish I had a picture...we may have to re-create the moment...me still in my dress clothes, barefoot on Jason's shoulders to reach the top of the carport to clothes-pin the flag and then dismounting cheer-style off the back when we were done). The Waitses hung their Auburn flag, and across the way the Brignacs hung up LSU. Jason played the FSU war chant in our car stereo at full blast today before our game started  and we tomahawk chopped in the parking lot. (The war chant is the song that played at our wedding reception as our wedding party entered...I married a true fan...he's lucky I love football).  We've got spirit, yes we do. It has been a fun football Saturday, and next week will be even better if we win!
